Outrigger boats moored in a sheltered bay

Why here

Most of Sri Lanka is within four hours of everywhere else in Sri Lanka.

That single fact is what makes the island so unusually generous. A morning on a reef, an afternoon in a fifth-century rock fortress and dinner at two thousand metres is not an ambitious itinerary here, it is a reasonable Tuesday.

What it does demand is routing that understands the roads, the weather windows and which sites deserve the early start. That is the entire job of our travel desk.

FAQs

Looking for answers?

Timing, private travel, what is included: the questions we hear most often before a first trip.

For December to March on the south coast, four to six months gives the best choice of villas. Hill country and the east are far more forgiving: six to eight weeks is usually plenty. If a trip is closer than that, ask anyway; we hold standing allocations at a number of properties.
